From its beginnings as a small private distillery founded in 1960, Distillerie Mazzari S.p.A. has developed into one of the most important European companies in the entire industry. It is based in S. Agata sul Santerno, in the province of Ravenna, the site of both production plant and the administrative offices. Company ownership is now in the hands of the founders, the Mazzari family, and Lavorazione Sociale Vinacce s.c.a.r.l.. Lavorazione Sociale Vinacce is a Consortium of Wine Growers' Cooperatives, the members of which include many important wine makers in North Italy, who account for some 15% of national production. The strategic "marriage" between Distillerie Mazzari S.p.A. and the Consortium (Consorzio di Cantine Sociali Cooperative) has allowed the Distilleria to secure about 40% of its raw material requirements (lees and wine for distillation).
